Dappnode with Ethereum Foundation's Drive for Node Diversification

Dappnode is excited to share a collaboration with the Ethereum Foundation's new initiative aimed at increasing the diversification of Ethereum nodes across the globe. This is an open call for anyone that understands the role that nodes play in powering a decentralized, robust, and resilient Ethereum, and that wants to bring in creativity into the game.

 

Nodes: A critical element of Ethereum 

Nodes are fundamental elements of the Ethereum ecosystem, driving increased security, access, control, and flexibility. They are integral to participation and active contribution to the Ethereum blockchain. This drive from the Ethereum Foundation seeks innovative proposals from individuals, teams, and institutions, especially those based in remote or underrepresented regions. As a reward, selected applicants will receive either a Dappnode or a stipend to cover the hardware cost.

Why Should You Run a Node?

Running a node, especially in a remote location, can have multiple benefits. Whether you aim to create node setup guides, benchmark client performances, facilitate indexed data queries for research, or provide access to Ethereum for your community in a private, uncensorable manner, running a node can be a vital contribution to the ecosystem. Hosting services that rely on Ethereum data, like Beacon Chain validators, layer 2 software, infrastructure, block explorers, payment processors, and more, become possible. Offering 

custom RPC endpoints accessible by the Ethereum community also reduces dependence on centralized providers.

 

Dappnode is also a gateway to solo staking

Dappnode serves as an optimal gateway for solo staking on Ethereum, making the process simple, safe, and secure. Dappnode users can stake independently, gaining control over their own validator nodes. This means participants have the full reward potential of staking without having to rely on third-party services like VPSs.

In the past months, the accelerated development of DVTs and LSDs has also opened the doors for users that through different available protocols, are now able to collectively put together 32 ETH in trustless ways. You can read more about this in this article.

Who is Eligible to Apply?

This program is open to all - individuals, teams, or institutions, with an emphasis on those from remote locations. Applicants should have a reliable internet connection, technical competency regarding nodes and clients, and a commitment to running the node for at least two years. The location of the node cannot be a data center or cloud.

Important Dates

  • Application window: June 7 - June 20
  • Evaluation window: June 20 - July 15
  • Final decisions by: July 15
  • Node launch and ENR submission deadline: September 1, 2023

Application Process

Applicants should complete the webform for application, which must be submitted in English. You must specify whether you prefer to receive hardware or a stipend for local hardware purchase. Applicants need to outline their understanding of nodes and clients, their intentions for the Ethereum ecosystem by running a node, and how they plan to share their impact with the community.
